Expertise in the Vineyard

Our vision of viticulture is built on strong choices in the vineyard, as we know that great wines can only be made from great grapes.

We therefore cultivate all our soils mechanically in order to preserve microbial life and encourage the vine roots to reach deep into the ground in search of nutrients. In doing so, they fully exploit every layer of the soil and subsoil.

Through this careful surface work and adapted organic nutrition, the biological activity of the soil is enhanced. The vine achieves a perfect balance with its environment, producing healthy, complex grapes whose aromas give rise to wines of remarkable typicity.

Expertise in the Cellar

Our work in the cellar is dedicated to revealing and enhancing everything that nature gives us through the grapes.

We aim to extract the maximum amount of tannins and polyphenols (structure and colour), always with a gentle approach.

To better control every stage of the winemaking process, the cellars of Château Fougeailles are subject to continuous technical improvements.

At each racking, we continue to handle the wine with great care, allowing it to naturally “organise” itself and fully express its aromatic complexity and full flavour potential.

The ageing process lasts approximately 20 months, including 12 months in oak barrels.
We exclusively use French oak barrels, with 15% renewed each year, in order to highlight the fruit and the unique character of the terroir.
